Simlångsdalen

The Halland Gravel Tour — 4 Days, 262km, One Unforgettable Experience

This is not a generic cycling holiday. This is Halland as only a local can show it — hidden forest trails, coastal paths, award-winning bakeries, a German-Balinese restaurant in the middle of nowhere, and some of the finest gravel riding in Scandinavia. Designed by Fin, UCI World Gravel Series route designer and founder of Bikes Boards Beans, this tour combines the best roads, trails, restaurants and hotels in the region into a four day experience that simply cannot be replicated.

You’ll ride a brand new 2026 BMC URS Two carbon gravel bike, sleep in carefully chosen hotels with character, eat well every day, and arrive back at our shop on Strandgatan 26 for a well-deserved coffee knowing you’ve seen the real Halland.

The Route

Day 1 — Halmstad to Simlångsdalen 45km | 350m climbing | Easy to modify for shorter distance

Your tour begins at our shop in central Halmstad where we fit you to your bike and collect your bag for transfer. Heading south you’ll follow the coastline for some early oceanside scenery before stopping at a famous cycle-themed café for the legally mandated cake stop. From there the route winds through coastal farms and past bronze age burial mounds before heading into the forests for some wilder gravel riding. Your destination is Simlångsdalen, a beautiful village in the heart of the best mountain biking in the region. Tonight you’ll stay at a gorgeous BnB run by a British-Swedish couple, enjoy dinner at the local hotel — usually featuring at least one wild meat on the menu — and finish the evening in a wood-fired sauna with forest views.

Day 2 — Simlångsdalen to Bolmen 65km | 500m climbing

Today you begin by riding the old Banvallsleden railway line — a historic inland route decommissioned in 1962 and converted to a cycling path. You’ll pass old mills on the riverside as you gradually climb into Småland. Backroads lead you to one of the most surprising restaurants in Sweden — a German-Balinese restaurant literally in the middle of the forest. Lunch here, then onwards through the small lakeside town of Unnaryd to your hotel on the shores of Bolmen, one of Sweden’s largest inland lakes. The hotel runs an environmentally friendly fish farm on site and dinner is a four course lakeside experience at their pub and restaurant. The evening includes a one hour canoe or kayak rental — the perfect way to end a day on the bike.

Day 3 — The Queen Stage Bolmen to Steninge | 92km | 950m climbing

This is the day that cannot be shortened. But it will be worth every metre.

A quick cake stop in Unnaryd before leaving is recommended — there isn’t much between here and lunch. The morning takes you through idyllic Swedish forests, lakes and backroads in a rhythm that becomes almost meditative. Lunch is at Feldt’s på Skolberget in Oskarström — a café and bakery complex that defies easy description. The owner is an award-winning baker and artist and the space reflects that completely. From Oskarström the final stretch opens out into farmed coastal lowlands as you ride towards the beautiful coastal village of Steninge for your last night. A fantastic restaurant is just around the corner.

Steninge

Day 4 — Steninge to Halmstad 60km | 400m climbing | Easy to shorten if needed

Your final day winds through farming villages and coastal trails before stopping in Haverdal for one last bakery. From there the route takes you through as much wilderness as possible as you make your way back into Halmstad, including the famous Prins Bertil coastal trail — one of the finest stretches of riding in the region — which brings you all the way back to our shop on Strandgatan 26 for a well-deserved coffee and cake.
