Simlångsdalen top Mountain Bike routes

Simlångsdalen is a long thin valley with multi-use trails running throughout. It is important to remember that though mountain bikes are welcome, they are not the primary means of movement. You will encounter hikers, dog walkers and horse-riders. Be respectful and always yield right of way to other trail users, especially horses.

The trails are quiet and not very technical, but they are not professionally maintained, and the signage can be old or damaged in places. It is recommended to use a GPS if you are not familiar with the area.

Mountain Biking is not allowed on the trails within the boundaries of Danska Falls nature reserve.

There is no colour ranking system here, the colours are randomly chosen. There are 5 different blue trails in the valley.

Klövaberget Blue 2.4 km 62m – Intermediate

This is a short, hilly route that takes you on single track up to the 35m high cliffs of Klövaberget. Be careful, there are no markings on the top, and it’s a deadly fall. The trail is surprisingly technical for a short village trail.

Gyltige Yellow 3.1 km 41m – Beginner

Short, fast, fun. This trail starts at the occasionally open campground at Gyltige, once upon a time it was an outdoor centre with climbing walls and ziplines. Those days are long gone, but the trails are still there. Enjoy. Park at Gyltigegården.

SLD Kids’ Route 5.3 km 51m – Beginner

This is a short route that starts at the pump track. It is designed that you can carry the bike back to the car if somebody has a meltdown. Remarkably, it ends at the ice cream kiosk. Good luck.

My favourite lap in the valley. Easy beginning, hilly middle, fun finish. It’s beautiful, please keep an eye our for hikers on the faster descents.

I challenge you to a duel 9.1 km 210m – Intermediate

This is a fitness loop, it goes up all the fun downhills. If you are looking to burn a few calories in a short amount of time, this is a great loop.

Gyltige Green Route 11 km 152m – Beginner

Quiet, seemingly remote, beautiful. It’s a beginner loop that almost any rider can complete. You can park at Gyltigegården, or follow the Banvallsleden former train tracks from the village (8km).

Village Trails 25 – 24.2km 323m – Intermediate

The name is rather descriptive, these are all trails near to the village, many of them are unmarked. Lots of fun to be had, be respectful of dog walkers if you see any. Great trail for beginners looking to challenge themselves, as you can give up at any point and you are near your car.

A new SLD 25 – 24.6km 363m – Intermediate

Classic route combining the best marked trails the village has to offer, Gyltige White and Simlången Blue. Quite a bit of climbing, some real nature. Keep an eye out for fox, deer and wild boar. I’ve run into 3 moose on this trail as well. Take an extra energy bar and two water bottles.

Lowlands Route – 34.5 km 511m – Intermediate

I’m not sure why I called this the lowlands route, it’s extremely hilly. Lots of nice single track, lots of good climbs. If you are looking for a good ride, this could be it. Bring food and water.

35k 580m – 35 km 580m – Intermediate

Another hilly intermediate route, this one has a bit more gravel and a bit less single track. Can you do it on a gravel bike? Probably. It’s a good ride that starts hilly, has some hills in the middle and ends with a few short climbs. Get it?

SLD 40 km – 40 km 723m – Intermediate

A slighty longer, hillier version of the 35. This route goes up, up, up, up, up, up, down. But it’s a really nice down. For most riders this will take you a good chunk of your day. Don’t think because in the Netherlands you average 25km/h mountain biking that you’ll be done this in an hour and a half.

Another version of the Hallandsleden hiking trail. Not technical.

Tylebäck to Tallhöjden MTB – 49.4 km 499m – Intermediate

This is a good route that connects two of our partner hotels if you are looking for an MTB weekend. You get to see the rocky coast, the beach, coastal sandy pine trails, up the Nissan river and the lovely beech trees, and then the mixes forests of Skedala with some man-made trails, and finally to Simlångsdalen for a well needed meal!

Tallhöjden to Tylebäck Long MTB – 77.2 km 1173m – Advanced

A longer version of the last trail, this one takes you through Oskarström where you can get a meal at Feldts’ Skolberget restaurant/bakery and then you head into the backcountry towards Biskopstorp and Kvibille (shop and restaurants), finally through Plönninge. It’s a great mountain bike route, but you need experience to be able to ride it.

2000m in 100km – 104 km 1984m – Extreme

It is what it is, a climbers’ challenge. This route can be ridden on a gravel or mountain bike, some parts are a bit too mountain bikey for some people, some parts are a bit too gravely for some people. It only goes up. You can simply remove your brakes to save weight. That’s a joke.

Ultimate MTB Tour of Halmstad – 150 km 2220m – Need I say, Extreme?

This route is extreme. Many of these trails are unmarked. There are advanced level trails and a lot of climbing on this route. Good luck.
